The Blue Mountain Rocketeers (also known as “BMR”) is a youth and family-oriented model rocketry club, based in the small farming community of Dayton, located in the southeastern portion of Washington State. The leadership of BMR consists of an adult Section Advisor and a four-person Board of Directors, all of which are youth 18 years of age or under.
BMR was created in November of 1994, with our first club meeting conducted on February 4, 1995. BMR is a chartered Section of the National Association of Rocketry; the oldest hobby rocketry organization in the United States. Our group is currently comprised of members from all walks of life from all over the Pacific Northwest. The club's launch site is waivered by the Federal Aviation Administration with a ceiling of 5,000 feet above ground level. We offer a compliment of 32 launch pads which can support Class 1 model rocket and Class 2 high power rocket flights of “A” through “I” impulse. We provide stainless steel launch rods for our launch equipment up to 1/2 inch in diameter, as well as launch rails in four, six and eight-foot lengths.
We only permit commercially manufactured rocket motors at our launches, certified by the National Association of Rocketry, the Tripoli Rocketry Association and the Canadian Association of Rocketry. No experimental motors are allowed. "Sparky" motors are allowed at the March, April and May launches only. During these months, our RSO's will evaluate each sparky motor flight on a case-by-case basis, based upon the current field conditions and the conditions of the surrounding area. All decisions of an RSO are final with regard to allowing or denying any rocket flight from the BMR launch site.
BMR charges no membership dues, event or pad fees. We welcome all rocketry enthusiasts, regardless of affiliation, to come and participate in our launches held monthly from March through October. All of our launches are open to the general public.
